Potential health effects
Read the DuPont General Processing Guideline for this product before using it. There are no known effects from exposure to the "Sorona" polymer itself. INGESTION: Not a probable route of exposure. SKIN: Contact with hot polymer will produce thermal burns. Continued) EYE: Mechanical irritant. INHALATION: Polymer pellets not respirable as marketed. Inhalation of the dust generated in handling or processing may cause irritation of nose, throat and lungs with sneezing or runny nose. If overheated or held too long at processing temperatures, the polymer may release highly toxic gases including acrolein and allyl alcohol. These gases may be irritating to the eyes, upper respiratory tract and lungs. Exposure to acrolein and/or allyl alcohol can cause cough, difficulty breathing, shortness of breath, accumulation of fluid in the lungs (pulmonary edema) and death.
Further information
Inhalation of free Titanium Dioxide may cause irritation of the lungs with discomfort, difficulty breathing or shortness of breath. Repeated skin contact with Titanium Dioxide may cause drying or cracking of the skin in sensitive individuals. Eye contact may cause eye irritation with discomfort, tearing or blurring of vision.
Potential chronic health
None known for this product. Repeated overexposure to allyl alcohol may cause liver and kidney effects. Based on the results of a DuPont epidemiology study, DuPont concludes that Titanium Dioxide will not cause lung cancer or chronic respiratory disease in humans at concentrations experienced in the workplace.
Medical Conditions Generally Aggravated by Exposure
None known Carcinogenicity Information
