TURPENTINE DANGER! FLAMMABLE! ACUTE HAZARDS EYE & SKIN CONTACT: Liquid is irritating to the eyes. It can cause conjunctivitis or corneal burns. Vapor concentrations at 175 ppm also irritating. Liquid can cause dermatitis or chemical burns. Can penetrate the skin to produce systemic effects. INHALATION: Vapors may cause irritation to nose, throat, and respiratory tract. Can produce headaches, dizziness, vertigo, chest pain, bronchitis, pulmonary edema, cyanosis, narcosis and accelerated pulse. SWALLOWING: Liquid can produce nausea, serious illness or even death. (Mean, lethal dose, adult, 4 - 6 ounces) SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS: Irritation as noted above. Early to moderate CNS (Central Nervous System) depression may be evident by giddiness, headache, dizziness and nausea. In extreme cases, unconsciousness and death may occur. SUBCHRONIC HAZARDS / CONDITIONS AGGRAVATED CONDITIONS AGGRAVATED: May cause pre-disposition of pneumonia and chronic nephritis. Chronic exposure can produce allergenic sensitization. SUPPLEMENTAL HEALTH INFORMATION Possibility of taratogenic effects exist for pregnant woman (AIHA Journal, 1976,423-26) SECTION 4. FIRST AID MEASURES AND PROCEDURES EYE CONTACT: For eyes, immediately flush with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes and call Physician. SKIN CONTACT: In case of contact with skin wash with water. Remove contaminated clothing and shoes and do not reuse until cleaned. If irritation persist get medical attention. INHALATION: After high vapor exposure, remove victim to fresh air. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. Give artificial respiration if not breathing. Get medical attention. SWALLOWING: If swallowed do not induce vomiting. CALL A PHYSICIAN IMMEDIATELY! Keep head below hips to prevent aspiration of liquid into the lungs. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. SECTION 5. FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES FLAMMABLE LIMIT IN AIR (% by volume) 0.8 Lower FLASH POINT (test method) : 91 DEG F (TCC) EXTINGUISHING MEDIA: Use Carbon Dioxide, dry chemical or foam. Water may be ineffective. SPECIAL FIRE FIGHTING PROCEDURES: DANGER! FLAMMABLE. Clear fire area of unprotected personnel and isolate. Do not enter confined fire-space without full bunker gear. (Helmet with shield, bunker coats, gloves and rubber boots). Use NIOSH approved positive-pressure self-containing breathing apparatus. Cool fire exposed containers with water. UNUSUAL EXPLOSION PROCEDURES: FLAMMABLE! Containers exposed to intense heat from fire should be cooled with water to prevent vapor pressure build-up which could result in container rupture. Contain areas exposed to directs flame contact should be cooled with large quantities of water as needed to prevent weakening of container. SECTION 6. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES SPILL OR LEAK: DANGER! FLAMMABLE. Eliminate all ignition sources. Handling equipment must be grounded to prevent spark. Isolate area and deny entry to unnecessary personnel. Wear appropriate respirator and protective clothing. Stop spill at source. Dike area and contain. Water fog may be useful in suppressing vapor cloud. Clean up remainder with absorbent materials. Mop up and dispose of. Persons without proper protection should be kept away from area until cleaned up. WASTE DISPOSAL METHOD: Recycle or dispose of observing local, state and federal health, safety and pollution laws. If questions exist, contact the appropriate agencies. OTHER PRECAUTIONS: Vapors may ignite explosively & spread long distances. Prevent vapor build-up. SECTION 7. HANDLING AND STORAGE HANDLING: Isolate from heat, sparks, electric equipment and open flame. Use only with adequate ventilation. Avoid breathing of vapor or vapor mist. Do not get in eyes, on skin or clothing. Wear
Storage
Vapors may ignite explosively and spread long distances. Prevent vapor build-up. Put out pilot lights and turn off heaters, electric equipment and other ignition sources during use and until all vapors are gone. Do not store above 49C / 120F. Store large amounts in structures made for
