2.3 Other hazards
White cement, when in contact with water, for example during the production of concrete or mortar, or when it gets wet, produces a highly alkaline solution (high pH due to the formation of calcium, sodium and potassium hydroxide). White cement can irritate eyes, mucosa, throat and respiratory apparatus and cause coughing. Repeated inhalation of white cement powder for a long time increases the risk of pulmonary diseases outbreak. Repeated and long contact with cement of moist skin may cause irritation and/or dermatitis, due to vapour permeability of the skin or humidity. Both white cement and its mixtures, when in prolonged contact with skin, may cause sensitization (due to traces of chromium VI salts). When swallowed, cement may cause ulcers to the digestive apparatus. On the basis of available data, the product does not contain any PBT or vPvB in percentage greater than 0,1%.
