Health hazards
Acute and Chronic) Gamma-cyhalothrin is very toxic by inhalation. The inhalation of vapour is negligible because of low vapour pressure, but inhalation of spray or mist must be avoided. It may be irritant to the respiratory tract. Gamma-cyhalothrin is toxic if swallowed. It is less toxic by dermal contact. Chronic exposure may cause functional changes in the central and peripheral nervous systems (see 11.5). Gamma-cyhalothrin is irritating to eyes. Eye and skin contact can be quite painful (see 3.2.), even though this effect is passing and does not cause further damage when the level of exposure is low. Gamma-cyhalothrin may cause hypersensitivity in certain individuals. 3.2. Signs and Symptoms of Exposure On contact gamma-cyhalothrin may cause feelings of burning, tingling or numbness in exposed areas (paraesthesia). The effect may result from splash, aerosol or transfer from contaminated Page 3 of 10 gloves. This effect is transient, lasting up to 24 hours. It may be considered as a warning that overexposure has occurred and that work practice should be reviewed. If swallowed or inhaled, small doses may produce non-specific symptoms (e.g. nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea). Large doses may produce disturbance of the central nervous system (e.g. tremors, convulsions, coma). 3.3.
