Further information
Occupational dermatitis (oxide pox) was reported among workers who made zinc oxide. The zinc oxide dust had combined with debris and bacteria to block sweat glands on the skin as a result of poor personal hygiene. Gastrointestinal disturbances such as pressure in the stomach region, nausea and weakness occurred after working for several years in processes such as galvanizing metal, torch-cutting or welding of galvanized metal and from working in brass foundries.
