Other hazards
Frequent inhalation of a large quantity of cement dust over a long period increases the risk of developing respiratory disease. Eye contact with the mortar (dry or wet) can cause serious damage to the eyes, which may be potentially irreversible. The mortar can have an irritating effect on wet skin (because of sweating or ambient humidity) after prolonged contact. Prolonged contact of the skin with wet mortar can cause serious burns because they occur without any pain being felt, for example if working kneeling on wet mortar, including through the thickness of trousers.
