Section 2
SECTION 2: Hazards identification
GHS Classification in Accordance with 29 CFR 1910 (OSHA HCS): Information Pertaining To Particular Dangers For Man And Environment: Methylene chloride is metabolically converted to carbon monoxide after systemic absorption, which yields increased concentrations of carboxyhemoglobin in the blood. Harmful if swallowed. Causes eye, skin, and respiratory tract irritation. May be harmful if inhaled. May cause central nervous system effects. Potential cancer hazard. May cause kidney damage. This substance has caused adverse reproductive and fetal effects in animals. Appearance: Hazy to amber paste Physical State: Thickened Liquid Odor: Sharp Penetrating
2.1 Classification of the substance or mixture

H370: Causes damage to organs
Prevention
P201: Obtain special instructions before use P202: Do not handle until all safety precautions have been read and understood P260: Do not breathe dust, fume, gas, mist, vapors, spray P281: Use personal protective equipment as required P210: Keep away from heat, sparks, open flames, and hot surfaces. – No smoking P233: Keep container tightly closed P240: Ground/bond container and receiving equipment P241: Use explosion proof electrical/ ventilating/ lighting/ equipment. P242: Use only non-sparking tools. P243: Take precautionary measures against static discharge. P261: Avoid breathing dust/ fume/ gas/ mist/ vapors/ spray. P264: Wash skin thoroughly after handling P280: Wear protective face/ respiratory/ body/ hand/ eye equipment P271: Use only outdoors or in a well-ventilated area
Response
P308+P313 If exposed or concerned Get medical advice/attention P305+P351+P338 IF IN EYES Rinse cautiously with water for several minutes. Remove contact lenses, if present and easy to do Continue rinsing P313: Get medical attention P302+P352 IF ON SKIN Wash with plenty of soap and water P362+P364: Take off contaminated clothing and wash it before reuse P332+P313 If skin irritation occurs Get medical advice/attention P304+P340 IF INHALED Remove victim to fresh air and keep at rest in a position comfortable for breathing P301+P310 IF SWALLOWED Immediately call a POISON CENTER or doctor/physician P330: Rinse mouth P370+P378 In case of fire Use water fog, foam, dry chemical, or carbon dioxide for extinction
Storage
P405: Store locked up P403+P233: Store in a well-ventilated place. Keep container tightly closed
Precautionary statements
Disposal P501: Dispose of contents/container to an approved waste disposal plant Notice: Reports have associated repeated and prolonged OVEREXPOSURE to solvents with permanent brain and nervous system damage. Intentional misuse by deliberately concentrating and inhaling the contents of this package may be harmful or fatal.
Potential health effects
Acute Eye: Contact with eyes may cause severe irritation, and possible eye burns. Acute Skin: May be absorbed through the skin. Causes irritation with burning pain, itching, and redness. Prolonged exposure may result in skin burns. Acute Inhalation: Inhalation of high concentrations may cause central nervous system effects characterized by nausea, headache, dizziness, unconsciousness and coma. Causes respiratory tract irritation. May cause narcotic effects in high concentrations. Vapors may cause dizziness or suffocation. May cause blood changes. Overexposure may cause an increase in carboxyhemoglobin levels in the blood. Can produce delayed pulmonary edema. Because of its high volatility, airborne concentrations of methylene chloride can accumulate in poorly ventilated areas. Odor is a poor indicator of possibly dangerous air concentrations of methylene chloride. Acute Ingestion: Causes gastrointestinal irritation with nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. May cause kidney damage. May cause central nervous system depression, characterized by excitement, followed by headache, dizziness, drowsiness, and nausea. Advanced stages may cause collapse, unconsciousness, coma, and possible death due to respiratory failure. May cause carboxyhemoglobinemia.
Potential chronic health
Possible cancer hazard based on tests with laboratory animals. Prolonged or repeated skin contact may cause dermatitis. May cause reproductive and fetal effects. Laboratory experiments have resulted in mutagenic effects. Chronic exposure may cause lung, liver, and pancreatic tumors. May cause conjunctivitis and/or corneal burns.
