Section 2

SECTION 2: Hazards identification

Principle Routes of Exposure

Routes of entry for solids and liquids include eye and skin contact, ingestion and inhalation. Routes of entry for gases inlude inhalatin and eye contact. Skin contact may be a route of entry for liquified gases. Target Organs: Respiratory system; Eyes; Skin when subjected to excessive heat. Inhalation: The pellet form is not expected to be hazardous. If material is subjected to excessive heat, the primary decomposition product vapors (styrene, 1,3 butadiene, acrylonitrile) can cause irritation to the respiratory tract. Skin: The pellet form is not expected to be hazardous. If material is subjected to excessive heat, the primary decomposition product vapors (styrene, 1,3 butadiene, acrylonitrile) can cause irritation to the skin. Eye: The pellet form is not expected to be hazardous. If material is subjected to excessive heat, the primary decomposition product vapors (styrene, 1,3 butadiene, acrylonitrile) can cause irritation to the eyes. Ingestion: Ingestion is not an applicable route of entry for intended use.

HMIS® ratings

scale 0-4) Health = 1, Fire = 1, Physical Hazard = 0 The following information of section 3 (excluding CAS# 9003-56-9, 9003-54-7, and 100-42-5) applies to the hazardous pigment(s) in the pure dry form. The form of pigment provided is encapsulated in plastic, therefore, the probability of exposure is minimal. Acute toxicity: Contact with molten product may cause thermal burns. The resin in pelleted form poses a low hazard. No othere known acute effects. Information on: Traces of styrene These pellets are high molecular weight polymers and do not expected to be chemically active under recommended Page 2 of 6 conditions of use. Some traces of styrene monomer and possibly traces of additives may be volatized under normal storage and processing conditions. With proper ventilation these products can be processed without exposing employees to unacceptable monomer levels. Information: Styrene Inhalation of styrene vapors causes severe irritation to the upper respiratory tract, CNS depression, and loss of balance. Ingestion results in irritation to the mouth, esophagus and stomach. Recent studies of workers exposed to airborne levels of styrene ranging from 3.2 to 549.5 mg/m3, showed a significant impairment of color vision. Irritation: Irritation is possible when the product comes in contact with the skin, respiratory tract or the eyes. Information on: Styrene, acrylonitrile, 1,3-butadiene decomp. Thermal decomposition products of the substance can irritate the eyes, skin, and respiratory tract. Information on ABS Resin ABS Resin in pellet form is not expected to be hazardous. Occupational exposure to this material has not been shown to cause significant adverse health effects, provided good industrial hygiene and safety practices are empolyed. Information on: Styrene Contact with styrene results in eye, skin and mucous membrane irritation. Prolonged skin contact may result in dermatitis and blistering. Repeated dose toxicity: Information on: Acrylonitrile: Under 29 CFR 1910.1045
