SECTION 2: Hazards identification
EMERGENCY OVERVIEW: Low hazard for usual industrial or commercial handling. Can decompose at high temperatures forming toxic gases. Contents may develop pressure on prolonged exposure to heat. The ingredients in this product are listed on the US FDA "8 Major Food Allergen List (milk, egg, fish, crustacean shellfish, tree nuts, wheat, peanuts, soybeans)". This product should therefore be treated as a potential allergen. Contact with this product may result in an allergic reaction in some persons. (3)
Potential health effects
Inhalation: Inhalation is not a likely route of exposure at normally encountered temperatures. Contact with mist or spray may cause irritation of mucous membranes, coughing and difficulty in breathing. See "Other Health Effects" Section. Skin Contact: Skin contact can cause irritation, especially under the finger nails (and other confined spaces such as under rings or watch bands). Prolonged and repeated contact may lead to dermatitis. May cause defatting, drying and cracking of the skin. May cause oil acne. Skin Absorption: A single, prolonged skin exposure is not likely to result in the absorption of toxic amounts of the material. Eye Contact: Contact to the eye may cause irritation, redness and pain. Ingestion: This product may cause mild gastrointestinal discomfort.
Other Health Effects
Effects (irritancy) on the skin and eyes may be delayed, and damage may occur without the sensation or onset of pain. Strict adherence to first aid measures following any exposure is essential. May cause central nervous system (CNS) depression and allergic reactions. CNS depression is characterized by headache, dizziness, drowsiness, nausea, vomiting and incoordination. Severe overexposures may lead to coma and possible death due to respiratory failure. Possible signs and symptoms of allergic reaction include bronchoconstriction, sweating, flushing, hives, rapid heart rate, decreased blood pressure and anaphylaxis. See Section 11, "Other Studies Relevant to Material".
