SECTION 2: Hazards identification
OSHA Blasogrind HC 5 and HC 10 are mixtures of synthetic oils, corrosion inhibitors and antioxidants. Ingredient: % Exposure Limit: synthetic oil 70 - 96 TLV: 5 mg/cm3 Blasogrind does not contain as an ingredient: chlorine, phenols, nitrites, formaldehyde, or formaldehyde releasing substances, heavy metals (i.e. lead, mercury, etc.) active sulfur, arsenic, PCB, PCT, TCDD or other dioxin related substances. EMERGENCY & FIRST AID PROCEDURES Skin contact: Wash with plenty of soap and fresh water (good personal hygiene practices are sufficient). Remove any contaminated clothing and launder before reuse. Eye contact: Rinse with plenty of fresh water for 15 minutes. Consult physician if necessary. Inhalation: Remove to fresh air. Ingestion: Do not induce vomiting, pulmonary aspiration hazard. Consult a physician without delay. If involuntary vomiting occurs, keep airways clear; ensure that mouth is below hip level. Get medical attention. FIRE & EXPLOSION HAZARD DATA Flash point (COC): Art 3280: 291°F (144°C) Art 3281: 356°F (180°C) Auto ignition temperature: Not determined 1 NFPA 704 Explosion limits: Not determined Carbon oxides, nitrogen, traces of oxides of sulfur 1 Hazardous combustion products: Products formed under 0 abnormal conditions: None Fire fighting media: CO2, dry chemical, foam, water spray Special fire fighting procedures: Wear self-contained breathing apparatus when fighting fires in confined spaces. Cool exposed containers with water mist to prevent pressure build-up. Unusual fire or explosion hazards: Material can be made to burn. Extreme use conditions may heat the material above the flashpoint, creating a fire hazard. 1 See last page for explanations PRECAUTIONS FOR SAFE HANDLING & USE Steps to be taken in case material is released or spilled: Spills or leaks may cause slippery conditions. Contain spill and recover free product. Absorb remainder using oil-binding agents (such as ‘Speedy Dry®’). Prevent material from getting into storm sewers or surface waters. Waste disposal methods: Dispose according to all applicable federal, state and local regulations. Precautions to be taken in handling/storing: Avoid direct solar irradiation of concentrate containers. Other precautions: Do not store with strong oxidizers. CONTROL MEASURES Ventilation: Ventilation sufficient to comply with recommended NIOSH exposure limit for metalworking fluids is suggested. Respiratory protection: Not generally required. Protective gloves: Impervious gloves recommended where prolonged or repeated contact cannot be avoided. Use caution when wearing gloves around moving machinery. Eye protection: Industrial safety glasses are recommended. Other protective equipment or clothing: Standard work clothing and shoes. Work/hygienic practices: Thorough personal hygiene and clean working practices are sufficient. CHEMICAL & PHYSICAL PROPERTIES OF THE COMPLETE PRODUCT Volatiles in %: Nil Vapor pressure: Not volatile Boiling point: Not determined Pour point: Art 3280: -17°F (-27°C) Art 3281: 21°F (-6°C) Density: 0.85 g/cm3 Viscosity: Art. 3280: 5 mm2/s@ 104°F (40°C) Art. 3281: 10 mm2/s @ 104°F (40°C) Solubility in water: Negligible Color of liquid: Colorless REACTIVITY DATA Stability: Stable Conditions to avoid: Avoid direct solar irradiation of containers. Good and safe housekeeping procedures suggest that all combustible materials be stored away from strong oxidizers. When working with magnesium, hydrogen can form and present a significant explosion hazard. To prevent hydrogen gas buildup, use ventilation and remove Mg fines (chips, swarf, etc) frequently! Incompatibility (materials to avoid): Strong oxidizers Hazardous decomposition or by-products: None Hazardous polymerization or by-products: Will not occur

Sensitive skin may be irritated Eye irritation: Not established; not expected to be irritating Routes of entry: Inhalation: Possible Skin: No Ingestion: Accidental only Carcinogenicity: None OSHA regulated: No WHMIS regulated: No Signs and symptoms of exposure: None established
Medical Conditions Generally Aggravated by Exposure
Not established Exposure limits: NIOSH Recommended exposure limit for Metalworking fluids: 0.5 mg/m3 OSHA 29 CFR 1910.1000 for oil mist in air: 5 mg/m3 ACGIH: TLV for oil mist in air: 5 mg/m3 The synthetic oil used in Blasomill passes IP346 for DMSO extractable PNA. ENVIRONMENTAL, REGULATORY AND SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION NFPA Storage: III B SARA Title III Information: Immediate health (acute): No Reactive hazard: No Fire hazard: No Delayed health (chronic): No Sudden pressure release: No Blasogrind does not contain any ingredients listed on the SARA Title III, Section 313 List or CERCLA List of Chemicals. RCRA / Hazardous Waste: Blasogrind, as sold, does not meet the criteria of a hazardous waste as defined under 40CFR 261, in that it does not exhibit the characteristics of a hazardous waste of Subpart C, nor is it listed as hazardous waste under Subpart D. It is the end-user’s responsibility to determine the regulatory status of the waste at the time of disposal. TSCA: All ingredients of Blasogrind are listed on the TSCA Chemical Substances Inventory. Clean Air Act: Blasogrind does not contain nor is it manufactured with ozone depleting substances as defined in the Federal Clean Air Act Amendments of 1990, sections 602 and 611. Canadian DSL / NDSL Information: All ingredients of Blasogrind are listed on the Canadian DSL. DOT: This product is not considered hazardous under current DOT regulations. Spills: This product is classified as oil. Spills into or leading to surface waters that cause a sheen must be reported to the National Response Center at 1-800-424-8802. RoHS: This product conforms to the RoHS Directive in that the RoHS regulated materials are absent or their concentrations are significantly below regulatory thresholds. Animal products / byproducts: This product does not contain any raw materials sourced from animal products or animal byproducts. HMIS III® Ratings 0 1 2 3 4 Health, Flamability, Physical Hazard Minimal hazard Slight hazard Moderate hazard Serious hazard Severe hazard There is a new generation of HMIS® being introduced, HMIS® III. This new system still uses colored bars and numeric hazard ratings, but instead of “reactivity” it uses “physical hazard” warnings, which are more in line with OSHA defined hazards. HMIS® III will provide employees the tools to understand and handle chemicals with a far greater degree of precision, thereby increasing the potential for the customer’s HazCom compliance. The HMIS® III health criteria have been designed to be as compatible as possible with the definitions contained in ANSI Z129.176. They also reflect certain criteria accepted by NIOSH, U.S. EPA, and other organizations. Acute oral, dermal, and inhalation toxicity are rated on a five-tiered scale (0-4), generally with a tenfold difference The new HMIS® III uses two boxes to indicate health hazards: The left box indicates if the chemical is a chronic or an acute hazard. An asterisk (*) or other designation corresponds to additional information on data sheet or separate chronic effects notification. The right box is used to indicate the hazard rating number. Numeric ratings are based on acute toxicity and chronic health hazard data, either from internal company data or published information. The HMIS® III health criteria have been designed to be as compatible as possible with the definitions contained in ANSI Z129.176. They also reflect certain criteria accepted by NIOSH, U.S. EPA, and other organizations. Acute oral, dermal, and inhalation toxicity are rated on a five-tiered scale (0-4), generally with a tenfold difference between the levels.
