SECTION 2: Hazards identification
Emergency overview DANGER: POISON. COMBUSTIBLE LIQUID. CAUSES EYE, SKIN AND RESPIRATORY TRACT IRRITATION. CONTAINS MATERIAL WHICH CAN CAUSE CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM DAMAGE. CAN CAUSE LIVER DAMAGE. CAN CAUSE KIDNEY DAMAGE. MAY ADVERSELY AFFECT THE DEVELOPING FETUS. CONTAINS MATERIAL WHICH MAY CAUSE CANCER. Use with local exhaust ventilation. Wear a NIOSH-certified vapor respirator. Wear NIOSH-certified chemical goggles. Wear protective clothing.
Principle Routes of Exposure
Routes of entry for solids and liquids include eye and skin contact, ingestion and inhalation. Routes of entry for gases include inhalation and eye contact. Skin contact may be a route of entry for liquified gases. Acute toxicity: Harmful by inhalation, in contact with skin and if swallowed. The inhalation of a highly enriched/saturated vapor-air-mixture represents a potential acute hazard. Irrespective of this assessment the substance has to be classified as toxic due to its tendency to cause methemoglobin formation. Irritation: Not irritating to the skin. Irritating to eyes. Sensitization: Animal studies do not fully exclude a skin sensitizing potential. Repeated dose toxicity: Toxic: danger of serious damage to health by prolonged exposure through inhalation, in contact with skin and if swallowed. (nur bei hämatotoxischen Dosen) Information on: Aniline Chronic overexposure to aniline may result in liver and kidney damage. NIOSH has concluded that overexposure to o-toluidine and aniline was associated with bladder cancers among workers producing rubber antioxidants. In an NTP study, dietary administration of 3000 and 6000 ppm aniline hydrochloride for 103 weeks to Fischer 344 rats produced carcinogenic effects as evidenced by hemangiosarcomas, a combination of fibrosarcomas and sarcomas of the spleen and a combination of fibrosarcomasand sarcomas of multiple body organs. However, aniline hydrochloride was not found to be carcinogenic in B6C3F1 mice fed 6000 ppm and 12,000 ppm via the diet.
Medical Conditions Generally Aggravated by Exposure
overexposure Data available do not indicate that there are medical conditions that are generally recognized as being aggravated by exposure to this substance/product. See MSDS section 11 - Toxicological information.
Environmental effects
Aquatic toxicity: Very toxic (acute effect) to aquatic organisms. The inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated when introduced to biological treatment plants in appropriate low concentrations.
