HF penetrates the skin and damages the underlying tissue. When damage to more than 50 square cm can cause hypocalcemia (low calcium levels in the body), which can have fatal consequences. Prolonged contact with weak solutions of HF can also cause corrosion. EYES: Both a solution as an aerosol can cause damage to the cornea. INHALATION (LOW EXPOSURE) Can nose, throat and respiratory damage. The symptoms may occur after several hours. INHALATION (GREAT EXPOSURE) Can nose and throat burn, can cause chemical pneumonia and edema. Other toxic effects such as hypocalcemia may occur, with potentially fatal consequences. INGESTION: May cause severe burns of the mouth, throat and stomach causing fatal. Even small Aliquots of diluted solutions, hypocalcemia can result. Without immediate medical action is a toxic effect plausible. DELAYED EFFECTS: The effect of contact with dilute HF solutions can occur even after some time. A potential delay in the occurrence of clinical effects can be found below in the table: HF CONCENTRATION DELAY: 20% - 50% 1-8 hours 0% - 20% Up to 24 hours
