Emergency Overview Danger! Very toxic by inhalation, in contact with skin and if swallowed. Very toxic to aquatic organisms. May cause long-term adverse effects in the aquatic environment. Readily absorbed through the skin. Sodium azide may react with lead and copper plumbing to form highly explosive metal azides. Contact with acids liberates very toxic gas. Heating may cause an explosion. Causes irritation to skin, eyes and respiratory tract. Harmful if swallowed, inhaled or absorbed through skin. May be fatal if inhaled, absorbed through skin, or swallowed.
