2.1 Classification of the substance or mixture
Classification under the Globally Harmonized System of classification and labelling of chemicals (GHS). Emergency Colour: None Overview: Odour: Ethereal Taste: None Physical State: Gas Form: Substance Main Hazards: - DME is highly flammable, and burns in air with an intensely hot, almost invisible flame. - The flammability limits in air are between 3,4 and 17% by volume, and explosive gas / air mixtures may be formed. Adverse - Its principal physiological effect is that of
Potential health effects
anaesthesia. - Concentrations of 5 - 20% (v/v) can cause such symptoms as intoxication, in co-ordination, blurring of vision, anaesthesia, headache, dizziness, excitation and unconsciousness, depending on the duration of the exposure. Chemical Due to its high solvency power, special attention should be paid to elastomeric gaskets and sealing materials. Biological At concentrations resulting from normal use as a propellant, DME cannot cause narcotic effects. Vapour Can cause narcotic effects. Inhalation: (See "Adverse Health Effects" above.) Eye Contact: Exposure to the liquid or concentrated vapour can be irritating and should be avoided. Skin Contact: Liquid or concentrated vapour could cause frostbite. Ingestion: In liquid form, it could cause serious cold burns. GHS Flammable gas (Category 1).
