EMERGENCY OVERVIEW Appearance: white crystalline powder. Warning! Irritant. Causes eye, skin, and respiratory tract irritation. May cause allergic skin reaction. May cause methemoglobinemia. Target Organs: Blood, respiratory system, eyes, skin.
Potential health effects
Eye: Causes eye irritation. May cause chemical conjunctivitis. Skin: Causes skin irritation. May cause skin sensitization, an allergic reaction, which becomes evident upon re-exposure to this material. May be harmful if absorbed through the skin. Ingestion: May cause gastrointestinal irritation with nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. May be harmful if swallowed. Inhalation: Causes respiratory tract irritation. May be harmful if inhaled. Chronic: May cause methemoglobinemia, which is characterized by chocolate-brown colored blood, headache, weakness, dizziness, breath shortness, cyanosis (bluish skin due to deficient oxygenation of blood), rapid heart rate, unconsciousness and possible death.
