2.1 Classification of the substance or mixture
Classified as Hazardous according to NOHSC Criteria Portland cement is a nuisance dust and an irritant to the skin, eyes and mucous membranes and is not considered a dangerous substance according to directive 67/548/EEC, point 4. When mixed with water (making concrete, mortar or when damp) a strong alkaline solution is produced. Contact with eyes or skin may cause serious burns and ulceration.
