Principle Routes of Exposure
Skin contact, eye contact Routes of Entry/Affects of Exposure Inhalation: Mists can cause irritation or burns of the upper respiratory tract. Pneumonitis can result from severe exposures. Prolonged inhalation of nitrogen oxides can result in delayed pulmonary edema. Skin: Major potential hazard. Contact with the skin can cause severe irritation and burns. Irritation may be delayed. Eyes: Major potential hazard. Mists can cause irritation, with high concentrations causing destructive burns and possible blindness. Ingestion: Ingestion can cause severe burns and pain in lips, mouth, tongue, throat and stomach. Death can result from ingestion. Chronic Effects of Exposure: May cause areas of tissue damage or dermatitis.
Medical Conditions Generally Aggravated by Exposure
May aggravate existing skin, eye, or respiratory conditions First Aid Measures Oral Ingestion: DO NOT INDUCE VOMITING! If person is conscious, immediately administer large quantities of water or milk. Do not give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. Call a physician. Special Note: Skin Contact: Immediately flush contaminated skin with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. Remove contaminated clothing and shoes while flushing with water. If burn or irritation occurs, call a physician. Eye Contact: Immediately flush eyes with plenty of clean, running water for at least 15 minutes, holding eyelids apart to ensure flushing of the entire eye surface. Call a physician. Inhalation: Immediately remove victim to fresh air. If respiratory symptoms or other symptoms of exposure develop, seek immediate medical assistance.
